UNC Hoops Talk Podcast #160

We open up 2019 finishing off the last 3 games of non-conference play and looking ahead to the start of ACC play!

I try to quickly look back on the Kentucky loss and the Davidson and Harvard wins before looking ahead to the beginning of ACC basketball starting off at Pitt and against NC State.

UNC Basketball: Final Four Bound...Again!

UNC Hoops Talk Podcast #114

Wow! Our Tar Heels are headed to Phoenix! Back to the Final Four for some redemption and to bring home something they didn't last year!

That's right since last week's podcast UNC took care of the Butler Bulldogs and then had another epic matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats. This time, however, they came out on top thanks to a buzzer beater by none other than Luke Maye on a play similar to what Villanova used to beat us for the championship last year!

Of course, I'll talk about the Butler game, a little, then move on to what many think was the championship game against UK. After that, I will look ahead to the Final Four game against the Oregon Ducks.

In a podcast later this week I will take a look at the Final Four as a whole and try to predict what will happen from here on out. Subscribe so you don't miss out!

UNC Basketball: On to the Sweet 16!

Our Tar Heels have survived, barely, and advanced on to the Sweet 16 in Memphis, TN next weekend.

After blowing out Texas So. they barely do enough to get by Arkansas to set up a match up with Butler and then either UCLA or Kentucky if they win for a chance at the Final Four!

Of course I go over the wins from this past weekend before getting into the upcoming game and weekend.

I'll glance back over my bracket, let you know last minute changes and how much it really didn't matter for my bracket.

UNC Basketball: Epic UK Game Recap!

What a game! Even though the Tar Heels came up just short of beating #6 Kentucky it was still a great game! Very entertaining and exactly what college basketball should be, 2 teams going at each other and big time performances. Unfortunately, UNC did come up one defensive stop short and dropped their second game of the year to a top 10 team. 

Can they win the big games? How much does Joel Berry really mean to the team? What's coming up to close the year out and open 2017?

I discuss all of this and more including the start of ACC play!

After a couple of ugly wins without Joel Berry II the Tar Heels had a week to get ready for the showdown with the Kentucky Wildcats in Las Vegas!

Pre-UK Roy Williams Press Conference

Leading into the showdown with #1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats, here is Coach Roy Williams weekly press conference.

We will need to really step it up and be ready for this one.  Win or lose I hope we come out and compete with them.

In other news Alex Poythress torn his ACL in practice yesterday and will be out for the season. Obviously this hurts UK overall, but there are a lot of teams that will rally around losing a guy. Of course, Kentucky doesn't need to rally to be really good.  It should and hopefully will be an interesting game.

Coming off a disappointing loss to Iowa in the ACC/B1G Challenge and a convincing bounce back win against ECU, the Tar Heels are now headed into Lexington to take on #1 Kentucky on Saturday.

UNC Hoops vs. UK and Texas

Tough loss coming off the UK win. We didn't rebound, FT's were horrible again and possible injury to Joel James. Just not enough effort and concentration tonight and we don't have the talent to take nights off.

Should College Athletes be Paid?

Another week, another Google Hangout from the Google+ College Basketball Community.

This we take on the discussion of whether college athletes should be paid or not. Of course, we don't come up with a definite answer as there really isn't the perfect answer. We try to bring up the best possible solutions and also the problems that would present themselves with them.

College Basketball Community Hangout- High School Recruiting and Social Media

The Google+ College Basketball Community hosted a great Hangout today.

+Jesse Wojdylo, +John Martin, and myself (+Dan DeWitt) welcomed an All-Star guest in +Khadija Head who provided some great information. Khadija who played college basketball at Murray State and has also been an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for several division 1 schools provided some phenomenal information on high school recruiting.

She gave some great personal stories, talked about how it has changed, and we spent some time discussing how social media has affected recruiting as well.

If you are a high school student, have a high school student, or know a high school student that is currently being recruited or possibly will be recruited I highly recommend watching this, paying attention, and following the tips given in it.

It is the third week of the College Basketball Google Plus Community Hangout. College Basketball Day 1 Recap

Yesterday I took a little break from watching football and sat down with +John Martin to recap the first days action of the 2013-14 college basketball season.

We discuss the affects of the new rule changes and our impressions of how some of the top teams and players looked, without trying to overanalyze anything too early.

We finish off with our thoughts the Champions Classic coming up on Tuesday when my computer decides it doesn't want to talk about dook anymore and shuts off. We do get through the discussion of the Kentucky vs. Michigan St. match up. Sorry about the sudden ending, hope you enjoy.
