UNC vs. Oakland

Friday night the UNC Tar Heels opened the 2013-14 season facing Oakland in Chapel Hill. With uncertainty in the air with PJ Hairston and Leslie McDonald having to sit out waiting on a decision to be made by the NCAA no one quite knew what to expect.

Starting the game with Freshman Nate Britt in his first start in his first game at PG, Sophomore Marcus Paige at SG, Sophomore JP Tokoto at SF with his first career start, James Michael McAdoo at PF, and Joel James anchoring us down at C. The entire first half was picture perfect with great execution and aggression by all of the Heels. Paige hit 4 3's in the first half, JP already had a career high with 13 points, Freshman Kennedy Meeks with 8 points and 4 rebounds off the bench and Brice Johnson with some highlight alley-oops.

However, it was McAdoo who led us all night long, with 21 points and 9 rebounds, and showed great leadership in doing so. He got up and down the court very quickly and seemed much more comfortable than we had seen him and especially over last year. With a 37 point lead at half (58-21) you could tell the Heels took the foot off pedal in the second half. After shooting 74% in the first half we relaxed, were not as aggressive and the result showed. We turned the ball over way more than we should have and it transferred right over to the shooting. Instead of putting up a bunch of stats and risking getting something wrong you can check them for yourself here with the Final Box Score.

Here also is the highlight video of the night and postgame interviews with Coach Williams and the players.

The Heels take a full week off before being back in action Friday, Nov. 15 against Holy Cross and then Sunday, Nov. 17 vs. Belmont both in Chapel Hill as well.

Go Heels!
